Another Victory Journal banger with my friends from New York city. This time, the assignment was simple, make a portrait of the most decorated Judo fighter of all time, the incredible Teddy Riner. As a black belt in Judo, this was the opportunity to speak with the greatest of the greats of the sport, and it didn’t disappoint. The future gold medallist and I shared moments, talking about race, culture, religion and his legacy. A few weeks later, it was decided that he would be the flag-bearer for the French delegation at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He also earned his second olympic gold-medal the following weekend. This article was my first collaboration with the extremely talented photographer Nils Ericson.
